Virtual Class Registration Info & How To
You’ll need to register for all our virtual yoga classes using the WellnessLiving Achieve app (available from iTunes or GooglePlay) or our website scheduler above. Just a note: the login credentials for both registration options are the same.
If you’ve never been to a class with our studio, no worries – it’s easy to get started: just create an account for yourself and you’re in. Once the initial account set up is complete, registration for our virtual classes is a breeze!
Please register at least one hour prior to class time. You’ll receive your class login information via your confirmation e-mail and your teacher will only be able to admit you to the virtual class space if you’ve registered in advance. We won’t be able to accommodate unregistered “walk-in” guests with this model, but we have made it easy for you to sign up in advance. If you need assistance with this process, please contact the studio – we’re happy to support making it easy for you to register for the yoga classes you love.
Your Account Transition to Virtual Pay Options
When we made the decision to suspended in-studio classes on March 15 in response to COVID-19, we put your monthly membership and/or pre-purchased class credits on pause as a courtesy. As we launch our virtual studio offerings, we’ve actively transitioned your account to make it easy to access our virtual classes at the new virtual prices. You can easily re-activate your access to unlimited monthly yoga classes by selecting the “Virtual Monthly Membership” option at check-out. If you prefer to convert your class credits (or the prorated value of your last regular monthly membership payment) for use on virtual classes, that’s an option too. The equivalent value of your existing class credits will be applied to your next purchase at check out. We can also set this up for you so there’s no stress or strain trying to figure out how to do this at check out. Simply send us an e-mail or give us a call and let us know how you’d like to proceed and we’ll make it happen then and there.
Timeline of Our Transition to Virtual Classes
We hope this transition to a virtual studio will be short-lived, but it becomes increasingly obvious that we’re going to need to continue coming together from a distance to practice yoga for awhile. Due to the intimate nature of our studio and the personalized yoga experience we offer in our beautiful space, we are prepared to operate in a virtual capacity until we feel it is responsible and safe to transition back to in-person classes. Even when state and local guidelines “allow” us to reopen our physical doors, we will be intentional about waiting until we feel it is truly safe to do so.
We can’t predict how long this will last, but based on information from experts in public health and epidemiology, we’ve made the decision to transition our entire yoga studio business model to a virtual operation through the end of June 2020 as a starting point. We will continue to communicate with transparency with our Renkon guests via e-mail and social media as we make decisions about the future of our studio. If you aren’t receiving e-mails from us, Click here to sign up to guarantee you’re in the know.
Virtual Class Access Info & How To
All of our virtual classes will be live-streamed from our Renkon teachers to your home. You will need reliable access to internet and a device (computer, laptop, tablet, or phone) to view the live-streamed classes.
LOGIN INFO: About 10 minutes before your virtual yoga class starts, you’ll want to login utilizing the unique link and password you’ll receive in your confirmation e-mail after registration. If you’re using a computer or laptop to stream the virtual class, you’ll simply click the link and enter the password in your confirmation e-mail a few minutes before class starts.
WAITING ROOM INFO: Once you click the link and enter the password, you’ll be automatically placed into Renkon’s virtual Zoom “waiting room” – please wait a few moments as your yoga teacher will be notified you’ve logged on to attend the virtual class. They will reference their class registration roster to check you into our system before admitting you to the virtual classroom. You’ll see a screen of small blocks (kind of like the opener of The Brady Bunch with your classmate’s faces and videos, each in their own blocks on your screen). See details below if you’re using a device to stream the class, to ensure best viewing options.
As a courtesy, you will be automatically muted when admitted to the virtual classroom but your teacher will be able to manually mute and unmute you as occasionally they’ll be facilitating brief periods of community conversation before and after class. Your video will be automatically on when you’re admitted to class, but you’ll have the ability to start and stop your own video anytime, which means you get to decide whether or not your teacher (and yoga classmates) can see you during practice. Leaving your video on allows your yoga teacher to customize their safety and alignment cues to what they’re seeing throughout the class – a huge benefit of a class is the interactive and custom experience facilitated by your teacher.
ZOOM INFO (Device): If you’re using a device, tablet or smartphone to stream your virtual yoga class, you’ll need to download the free Zoom Client app prior to class. Just a few notes about that process: Please do not upgrade to a paid version of the Zoom app if you’re prompted to do so and do be sure to give the Zoom app permission to access your device’s camera and microphone when prompted during app setup by clicking “OK” – this will ensure your teacher can see and hear you during class.
Pro-Tips for best viewing from a device: If you swipe left, you’ll see different screen “views” – your device will open with “speaker view” on, which means whoever is speaking (your teacher) will be the only person you see. If your teacher un-mutes someone (or the whole class) for some community-focused conversation before or after class, the screen will automatically switch from speaker to speaker as people talk. This will be the ideal viewing option during class so you’ll only be seeing your teacher and not the entire class. Swiping left to “gallery view” means you’ll see all the “Brady Bunch” blocks of those on the call. This is more of a community-focused yoga experience and is great for the portions of class that are guided conversation, but may be more difficult to see what your teacher is doing during, depending on the size of your device’s screen. The best viewing option will be personal and up to you to manually change by swiping left or right to suit your preferences.
ZOOM INFO (Computer): If you’re using a computer or laptop to stream the virtual class, you’ll simply click the link and enter the password in your confirmation a few minutes before class starts. There’s no app to download. Occasionally, your computer setup may have your camera or microphone disabled. If you have trouble starting your video (you’ll know this is happening if the square with your name on it in the Zoom classroom is black and you can’t see your own face) or if your teacher can’t hear you, you’ll have some tech trouble-shooting to tend to. Usually this can be done by going to the settings on the computer you’re using. Unfortunately, this is a system specific setting and we’re unable to provide customized, step-by-step how to’s. If you have trouble with this, do contact us and we’ll do our best to point you in the right direction. We’ll do our best, but we make no promises – you may need to phone a friend, the manufacturer of your computer, or your local computer store to get the help you need.
Pro-Tips for best viewing from a computer:You’ll have the option to see different screen “views” once in your Zoom classroom. You can manually select which screen view you’d like to use at any given moment in the upper right hand corner of your Zoom screen. With “speaker view” on, you’ll prioritize seeing whoever is speaking (in most cases, this will be your teacher since you and your classmates are automatically muted most of the time). If your teacher un-mutes someone (or the whole class) for some community-focused conversation before or after class, you may want to select “gallery view,” which means means you’ll see all the faces of your classmates all at once – the best virtual version of being in our yoga studio space “together.” This will look a bit reminiscent of “Brady Bunch” blocks that’s great for getting connected with the community, but not an ideal setting during class when you’ll want to prioritize seeing your teacher. Switch between the viewing options in the upper right hand corner of your Zoom screen any time. The best viewing option will be personal and up to you to manually change by swiping left or right to suit your preferences.
Virtual Class Cancellation Policy & How To
You’re easily able to cancel a class you’ve registered for if plans change. You can click the “cancel” button in your registration confirmation e-mail, or login to your account using our WellnessLiving Achieve app or website scheduler and click “cancel.” With just a few clicks, you can easily cancel a class registration up to one hour prior to start time and your class credit will be applied to back to your account for future use.
Note: classes cancelled within one hour of class start time will be considered a “late cancel” and your class credit used for registration will be redeemed by our scheduling software as though you had attended. If you miss a class you’ve registered for, no worries – life happens. However, the class credit used to register for the missed class will be redeemed by our scheduling software as though you had attended. Whenever possible, please be sure to cancel classes you’ve registered for at least one hour prior to class start time to have your class credit returned to your account for future use. If a real-deal emergency prevented you from attending class cancelling your registration in advance, just contact us and we’ll use some common sense and client care on a carefully considered case-by-case basis to help make it right and pop that class credit back onto your account.
We reserve the right to cancel a class, event or private session due to inclement weather or teacher unavailability. Please be sure to opt-in to our notifications when setting up your guest account. This will allow us to send an SMS message directly to your device if a cancellation occurs as a courtesy. We will also post cancellation information on our Facebook and Instagram social media feeds as a best attempt to notify our community in advance of class. Any payment for a class, event or private session that we cancel will be credited to your account for future use. Our workshops and events will be cancelled if a minimum of five registrants is not met within 48 hours of event start. In this situation, you will be notified via e-mail as well as contacted by Renkon Studio staff via SMS or phone call and your payment refunded in full.
Best Practices to Prepare for Your Virtual Class
There’s a bit of unique prep involved for the best user experience when it comes to a virtual yoga class. Renkon is a “come as you are” studio space – there’s no experience or fancy pants necessary. We’re here to start where you are. We truly believe yoga is for every body. (Yes, even you!)
Please dress comfortably for ease of movement. Prior to the start of your virtual yoga class, have your home yoga practice area set up: get your yoga mat rolled out facing your screen or device, make sure your technology and wifi are ready, have a water bottle handy, and set up your props near your mat. We suggest having 2 beach towels or blankets on hand to support your seat or hips, a box of tissues nearby as well as two blocks and a strap if you have them. Check out our blog post about setting up a home yoga practice area
Our goal is always to ensure you feel safe and supported from the moment you arrive to class, even when we’re practicing yoga together virtually. You don’t have to be extra fit, strong or flexible to enjoy a yoga class, but a general good bill of health free from movement restrictions is a must when beginning any movement practice. Please consult your physician to determine if this is an appropriate movement practice for you. If you have any health or mobility concerns, please let your yoga teacher know prior to the start of practice so they can provide safety and alignment cues to help you care for your health and well-being.
Ultimately, your safety is your responsibility, as outlined in the liability waiver you sign while creating your guest account in our scheduling software. If you’re invited to move into a posture that doesn’t feel appropriate/safe for you or experience pain or discomfort once you’ve moved into the posture, we encourage our guests to move into child’s pose, slowly transition back to standing, or modify the posture in a way that feels safe and supported for you (listen to teacher cues about modifications and the addition of props for a safer experience). Ultimately, you’re encouraged to prioritize your safety and well-being and pause or adjust your practice quietly anytime it supports your physical and mental health needs – always wait until you feel ready to rejoin the practice. Your teacher will likely notice your modifications and check in with you, but it won’t disturb the class experience. Take care of you!
